In this series of four Alliance Spotlights, we take a closer look at the early years inspection handbook focusing on each of the final judgments that Ofsted will make to contribute towards an overall grade. We will discuss the aspects that are considered, using the grade descriptors for 'good' as a starting point. There will be opportunities to explore each grade descriptor in more detail to reach a shared understanding of what it entails and to share best practice amongst participants. Each session will also include extracts from recent (anonymised) inspection reports as we consider some of the strengths and weaknesses that Ofsted identify.In this session, we will focus on Leadership and Management.
Effective leadership and management is the key to success. When considering the grade descriptors for this area, inspectors will explore how shared values, policies and inclusive practice contribute to the quality of care and education that is offered.Furthermore, a culture of safeguarding that reduces the risk of harm to children and ensures they are protected at all times, must be clearly evident. Ofsted’s grade descriptors refer to leaders having focus, integrity and a clear vision for their provision. This session will explore how these ideals can be realised to secure the best possible outcomes.
